If you are travelling around England and looking to buy something unique and locally made, then a visit to a Pannier market could be just the place you.

This is a popular type of indoor market that you'll find in Devon and the West Country of England.

The Tavistock Pannier market has been continuously running for over 900 years. The first market opened in 1105, upon the granting of a Royal Charter, which is similar to documents of incorporation that companies use today.

Trading days are from Tuesday to Saturday, except in the run-up to Christmas, when it is also open on Mondays.

The variety of goods on offer include plants and garden supplies, food, jewellery, antiques, clothing, home decor and gifts along with many custom made items.

Walking around the stalls, you get to see many of the artists and crafters at work, so you know that what your buying from them is unique.

Some of the stalls stay the same, but a large number of them change each day according to that day's theme which are:

Antiques & Collectables on Tuesday

Crafts and mixed market on Wednesday and Thursday

Fresh local fruit and veg on Fridays

Saturday - Regular themed markets

On Saturdays, they change themes with the first Saturday of the month being an Aladdins Cave of collectables, and on the second Saturday crafts, others are mixed.

During the summer months, they expand the market into Bedford Square with a wider variety of stalls.
