Two local groups combine for Christmas charity concert
Christmas cheer will be arriving in the Staffordshire town of Tamworth when the contrasting delights of Tamworth Voices and Tamworth Wind Band combine for a festive concert at historic St Editha's Church in the town centre on Saturday 2 December. The popular Christmas concert forms part of the continuing Tamworth Assembly Rooms on Tour which is taking place while the Assembly Rooms undergoes major refurbishment work. This year's concert, which will be raising money equally in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and St Editha's Church, will be extra special this year as Tamworth Voices will be performing for the first time with Tamworth Wind Band.
Tamworth Voices will provide a contemporary feel to the traditional choir by covering a wide range of musical styles as well as performing well known Christmas anthems. Councillor Joy Goodall, Tamworth Borough Council's Cabinet member for Environment and Culture, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to see both Tamworth Voices and Tamworth Wind Band, perform Christmas classics with a contemporary twist. This is guaranteed to bring Christmas cheer into the hearts of all who attend. The Arts and Events team has been working hard to support local groups to find alternative venues until the new-look Assembly Rooms are ready to welcome them back. We hope that people will support and continue to enjoy these very special events."
Tom Sears, Musical Director of Tamworth Wind Band said:" We are very excited to be joining forces with Tamworth Voices for this concert. It promises to be a spectacular show, raising money for a very worthy cause." A spokesman for the church wardens of St Editha's Church said: "It is always a privilege to host events in St Editha's, it makes the church feel a real part of the community. It is wonderful to think that Tamworth Voices and the Wind Band not only choose to perform in St Edithas, but donate part of the money raised to the church. Having listened to both of them perform it should be a wonderful evening!" Pauline Lewis, fundraising manager for Macmillan said they were "absolutely delighted" that some of the profits from the concert were going to the charity. "There is no better way to start your Christmas season than enjoying this great festive themed evening and raising money for local people affected by cancer. With almost eight people living in Tamworth being diagnosed with cancer every week, the support of the kind people of Tamworth is needed now more than ever."
