Be afraid, be very afraid at Beetlejuice midnight screening
The night air around Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire will be filled with summer screams when the town's outdoor cinema season brings horror aplenty in the form of the cult classic Beetlejuice. Fans of the iconic dark comedy will be thrilled and entertained at the prospect of watching Beetlejuice under the stars in Tamworth Castle Grounds on Saturday 10 August. The movie will be shown on a giant screen, starting at 11.55pm. This will be a silent screening, adding to the dark comedy effect, with individual headphones provided for film-goers. Organisers are also urging people to turn up wearing fancy dress as their favourite character from the movie, even down to the spooky make-up, for a night to remember.

Horrorr and mayhem coming to Tamworth Castle Grounds

The midnight film choice of Beetlejuice was made in 1988, an American comedy-fantasy film directed by Tim Burton. The plot revolves around a recently deceased young couple played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, who become ghosts haunting their former home. An obnoxious, devious demon named Betelgeuse (pronounced and spelt Beetlejuice in the movie) portrayed by Michael Keaton, arrives from the Netherworld to try and scare away the new inhabitants played by Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Winona Ryder. Beetlejuice was a critical and commercial success, winning the Academy Award for Best Makeup and three Saturn Awards - Best Horror Film, Best Makeup, and Best Supporting Actress for Sylvia Sidney, her final award before her death in 1999. The film's huge success has led to video games releases, animated television series and even a stage musical.

Earlier in the evening, Tamworth Castle Grounds will be showing recent release, Bohemian Rhapsody, telling the story of the band Queen. However, tickets for Bohemian Rhapsody have already sold out. Whether cinema-goers are planning on viewing both movies or just one, they are invited to take warm blankets, especially for Beetlejuice, and a picnic, although food and drink will be on sale during the event. No glass, gazebos or alcohol are to be taken on-site, but a licensed bar will be available throughout. Gates open 15 minutes before Beetlejuice. Entrance is by ticket only and the movie is for audiences aged 18 and over, due to licensing restrictions.
