The Staffordshire market town Is set to be transformed into a riot of colour as it chases gold for an incredible 10th year in a row. The 2019 Tamworth in Bloom campaign has just been launched, revealing a very special theme and message as the town again goes for the ultimate prize in the Heart of England in Bloom competition this year Tamworth Borough Council has chosen the theme of Blooming Tamworth – more than just flowers, with the focus on celebrating everything that is great about Tamworth including its community, events and history. The council's Street Scene teams will be out in force over the coming months to prepare the area for its summer floral display, while communities, groups, businesses and individuals are getting involved with exciting new projects that will involve more than just planting or hanging baskets.

Tamworth to be emblazoned in colour
This year everyone is invited to help sow the seeds for success by taking part in 'The Big Sow' in Tamworth Castle Grounds during the St George's Day activities on Saturday 20 April. People are being encouraged to join in with the free 'Blooming Tamworth' arts and crafts workshops taking place in Ankerside Shopping Centre before picking up your seeds to plant outside. April 20 also sees the launch of the 'Tree Cosy' project – a community knit that will brighten up Tamworth's open spaces, working with local groups and Tamworth Dementia Friendly Communities, to cover the town in knitted forget-me-nots. As Tamworth is going for gold for a milestone 10th time, this year's theme involves a celebration of the town's community and heritage, reflecting some of these in the Tamworth in Bloom flowers and events. For example, this year marks the 130th anniversary of the original opening of the Assembly Rooms, which was built to mark the jubilee of Queen Victoria. To honour the anniversary, special events are planned including an evening bandstand concert of 'Music Under the Stars', with a homage to the artists which have performed at the Assembly Rooms over the years.

Plans taking shape for this year's Tamworth in Bloom display
Blooming Tamworth is also about the events and activities that attract visitors to the town, including live performances in parks and open spaces. A willow weaving workshop will see the launch of a new sculpture trail at Dosthill Park on May 18, while characters from the classic story 'Wind in the Willows,' will be brought to life in time for the outdoor theatre performance of this heart-warming tale on June 16. The Moor Street traffic island will be given a new floral design and new planting is taking place by the Aethelflaed statue on the roundabout by the railway station island. Businesses are invited to join in by sponsoring a display; banners, planters, troughs and flowerbeds are all available for branding with the names of supporting companies.
