Children aged between 3 and 14 will soon be able to enjoy a visit to a medieval castle in Staffordshire even more. A fantastic new play area is nearing completion at
Tamworth Castle Grounds at a cost of £375,000. The adventure playground, which will be situated in the heart of the Castle Grounds, will include a huge variety of swings, slides, seesaws, towers, roundabouts, climbing frames, climbing walls, monkey bars, trim trails, action spinners, buddy board, and teepees. The new playground also has a much bigger focus on inclusivity with many elements that can be enjoyed by children of all abilities. This includes a wheelchair accessible roundabout, supported swing seats, wheelchair access ramps and a variety of sensory playboards, including human-powered kinetic energy play panels. With the new play area set to be towered over by Tamworth Castle the new equipment includes bespoke castle-themed structures complete with turrets. Visitors will also be welcomed to the park through a castle gate design.

The new adventure playground nearing completion
The old playground closed on May 24 for the work to begin, in order to get it ready to open for the summer holidays. Councillor Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: "
The old playground has been a much-loved and iconic play area, creating happy memories for many thousands of children. We know how much families are looking forward to the opening of this brand-new play area, especially during this summer and although the contractors have experienced delays with the delivery of materials and the impact of the pandemic, they are still progressing for completion this summer. The new design from Wicksteed Playgrounds has something to offer all children, including those with additional needs or disabilities. We also wanted to make as much use of the space as possible and the new layout packs in loads of swings, slides, climbing frames and other multi-use equipment, so more children can enjoy the park at one time."

The new play area sits within Tamworth Castle Grounds
Adam Brookes, Wicksteed Area Sales Manager, said: "T
he park design caters for a wide range of ages and abilities to bring a significant benefit to children's well-being. The equipment has been chosen to provide inclusivity, challenge and social interaction for users. The centrepiece of the play area is a large bespoke castle unit with many play features for children to enjoy hours of play." To see the full outdoor events programme for this summer, please visit
