People in the Staffordshire town of Tamworth are being advised to 'get their skates on' if they want to enjoy a special seasonal attraction before it closes on the eve of Christmas. A new outdoor attraction has opened for the first time as part of Tamworth Borough Council's annual Christmas festivities. The town’s first open-air, eco-friendly, synthetic ice rink has opened in the grounds of historic Tamworth Castle, offering a perfect outdoor activity for family, friends or work colleagues to enjoy. But tickets are selling fast for the exciting festive adventure, which is open to ice skaters of all ages and skill levels.

The ice rink, which overlooks the river and sits beneath the ramparts of the medieval castle, is open until Christmas Eve. People can book a session on the ice for an hour, beginning at the start of the hour, with the attraction proving so popular that many sessions have already sold out. Tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £5 for children. Children aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a full-paying adult. All ticket prices include the use of skates.



At the same time, children can also meet Santa in his grotto at the nearby Castle Stables until December 23, with tickets priced at £2 per child. And, alongside the ice rink and Santa’s grotto, visitors are also being encouraged to make a special festive trip to Tamworth town centre to take part in a brand-new free trail to try to find a number of life-sized nutcrackers hidden around the area. The Nutcracker Trail continues throughout the Christmas period right up until December 31. Anyone finding all the Nutcracker characters can enter into a prize draw.

Councillor Thomas Jay, leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said they were excited to see the final part of their Christmas in Tamworth events taking shape with the opening of the ice rink and Santa’s grotto in the Castle Grounds. He added that they had received a brilliant response to the festive attractions with many people coming into the town centre to enjoy the seasonal fun.
