A 'fairytale' castle in the heart of Staffordshire has opened its festive doors to welcome visitors to explore their decorated rooms and Christmas arrangements. Medieval Tamworth Castle , which overlooks the market town that bears its name, has been displaying items created by Dosthill Women's Institute, Lady Meadow Sewing Group, volunteers and South Staffordshire College.

Tamworth Borough Council has enlisted the support of the groups, together with castle volunteers, to prepare the historic structure for Christmas; helping to create beautiful displays within its many period rooms. Council staff and volunteer groups have been busy making hand-crafted decorations, dressing the castle with flower arrangements, and making additional room setting scenes.



This year’s Christmas decorating theme is the 12 Days of Christmas. Students from South Staffordshire College also supported with a choreographed, performed and filmed ‘Ten Lords a Leaping’. The film is being played in the Victorian bedroom as a ‘dream’ projection. The Dosthill WI, Lady Meadow Sewing Group and volunteers have offered their time and skills to create magical, festive atmosphere for visitors to enjoy until 30 December. What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to enjoy a special visit to Tamworth Castle in December, exploring a truly historic setting.

Families are also invited to book onto the remaining Magical Santa shows taking place at Tamworth Castle on 16 and 17 December. Join Santa and his elves for a fun-packed show full of festive cheer, songs, and merriment. Prior to the show, children will have the opportunity to write a letter to Santa, post it through a magic letter box and create a Christmas keepsake. Each child will be presented with a gift from Santa and his elves as they bid them a fond farewell. Tickets are priced at £17.95 for children aged 0-2 years, £18.95 for children aged 3-15, and £10 for adults.



Councillor Andrew Cooper, Portfolio Holder for Entertainment and Leisure at Tamworth Castle, said: “We are delighted to share our festive décor with visitors this Christmas. I want to say the biggest thank you for the continuous help from our volunteers and community groups who bring a variety of skills to support with many tasks and events throughout the year. We cannot operate the castle without our valuable volunteers and group's contribution.

“In addition, a big thank you to everyone’s hard work and support for the recent Christmas events. From planning the decorative scheme, creating items, dressing the castle and delivering the popular Candlelight event. You have worked relentlessly and made the castle look beautiful.



“We are very fortunate to have Dosthill WI, Lady Meadow Sewing Group and our volunteers, to help us with creating traditional festive displays. In addition, this year we also thank South Staffordshire College learners and our Nottingham University intern for their support and creativity.”
