A community music group is celebrating its 50th anniversary by taking centre-stage in a big way. Tamworth Arts Club is to commemorate the major milestone in its history by performing in Tamworth Castle Grounds on Saturday 9 July. They will be taking to the circular stage of the bandstand within the delightful grounds in the shadow of Tamworth Castle.
The free concert will see Tamworth Arts Club celebrate 50 years of performing musical theatre on stage in the Staffordshire market town. And they are inviting people to get along to the Castle Grounds bandstand to join the band as they deliver a selection of their favourite big show tunes from the last five decades.
Depending on the weather, performances will take place on Saturday July 9 from 1pm until 2pm and then again from 2.30pm till 3.30pm. The concerts are set to feature numbers from West End and Broadway musicals including Pirates of Penzance, Oliver, Copacabana, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady, Jekyll and Hyde, and Oklahoma. Tamworth Arts Club will also have its 50 year archive available for visitors to view.
And if that isn't enough, further entertainment will be provided in Tamworth Castle Grounds bandstand on Sunday July 10 when Tamworth Wind Band plays a range of popular, classical, film and original wind band music. Tamworth Wind Band is a community group made up of musicians of all ages and abilities, rehearsing on Tuesday evenings at Flax Hill School in Gillway, Tamworth. They will be performing in the bandstand between 1pm and 3pm, also weather permitting.
The bandstand concerts have been organised by Tamworth Borough Council's Arts & Events team to provide music and entertainment for all tastes at weekends throughout the summer months. This year's programme has been extended in both length and variety and features performances from 12 different groups, including storytelling, drama and even a circus skills workshop. All performances are free and take place regularly between 12 noon and 4pm. More information is available online.
