I've never been fond of East Asian cuisine always finding it to be a bit bland but my opinion has definitely changed thanks to one trip to Tampopo Restaurant situated in Reading's Oracle Mall.

As you near Tampopo, the aroma wafting from the place is enough to get your tongues rolling and stomach grumbling. You step inside and you are welcomed by a friendly staff as you take in the stylishly minimalist décor, the relaxed vibe and moments later you realise the experience has been good value for money.

While there are many Eastern/Oriental options in this neighbourhood, what sets Tampopo apart is that it has some of the best noodle options in town, with choices ranging from Japanese ramen to Vietnamese pho from Singapore's laksa to Thailand's tom yum.



A key selling point of Tampopo is its well-thought of menu that allows you to sample dishes from across East Asia in one sitting. A place which offers food packed with flavour and punch; instantly transporting you to the bustling streets of Bangkok or amidst the noodle vendors of Singapore.

While their Pad Thai is highly recommended; my favourite is Ga Xao Xa Ot. Succulent Chicken breasts are perfectly balanced with fiery chillies, green pepper and carrots. It is a flavour galore which is hot, yet not burning.




So, if you fancy a fresh and interestingly different Eastern bite at reasonable prices; Tampopo should be your pick.
