There will be split sides galore as the town of Tamworth in Staffordshire stages its very own comedy festival complete with headline stand-up performers. Tamworth Borough Council is teaming up with local stand-up comedy night, Morti-field, to deliver the
Tam-mirth Comedy Festival in September. And, to ensure there is no shortage of laughs for comedy fans to enjoy, the festival will be headlined by top jokers Ed Byrne and Stephen K Amos. They will both be appearing at Tamworth Assembly Rooms, either side of other top-of-the-range comedians, making it a festival to remember.
Well-known Irish comic Ed Byrne will be kicking things off on style with his Tragedy Plus Time show on Sunday 17 September at 7.30pm. Attributed to Mark Twain, humour is defined as Tragedy Plus Time, so comedy fans can come and join Ed as he tests that formula by mining the most tragic event in his life for laughs. That is followed on 18 September by Yippee Ki Yay, an acclaimed retelling by Richard Marsh of the classic film Die Hard. The joyfully funny show comes to Tamworth as part of a UK tour following rave reviews for its premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.
Ed Byrne brings his comedy genius to Tamworth
An Evening without Kate Bush hits the Assembly Rooms stage on 20 September, performed By Sarah-Louise Young. Audiences can expect to howl with the Hounds of Love and dance on the moors with Wuthering Heights. Next up, on 24 September, is comedy ventriloquist Steve Hewlett, who has been delighting audiences with his hilarious dummies since his big break as a finalist on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent in 2013.
Also, the Tam-Mirth Comedy Festival will feature a screening of one of THE best-ever stand-up performances - Eddie Murphy RAW - for one night only on 28 September. Released in 1987, Eddie does his uproarious stand-up routine in concert, shot at New York City's Felt Forum.
