A music charity in Birmingham has unveiled a packed and varied programme of entertainment at its two iconic venues in the city over the next three months.
B:Music is jointly responsible for historic Birmingham Town Hall and its more modern 'sister' venue, Symphony Hall. Together, they will host a feast of music, comedy, dance and talks, between May 1 and July 31, to suit every kind of audience.
The new season showcases an array of performances at the Town Hall and Symphony Hall, with a varied and exciting programme of shows right from the start. May sees the contrasting talents of singer-songwriter Katie Melua, Daniel O'Donnell, and Midge Ure all performing at Symphony Hall, while over at the Town Hall audiences are invited to enjoy comedian Phil Wang’s distinct humour, experience two-time Grammy Award-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens, and glory in the Great American Songbook courtesy of
An Unforgettable Evening with Sir Willard White and the Brodsky Quartet.

Other May treats include an evening of epic and inspirational music from
Lord of the Rings,
The Hobbit, and
Game of Thrones in the capable hands of the London Concert Orchestra and a stunning choir, while other orchestral performances include the CBSO and Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Audiences can also enjoy guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and West End theatre star Carrie Hope Fletcher in the same month.
June opens with further contrasting delights across the two Birmingham venues. Stand-up comedian Jonathan Van Ness starts the laughter on June 2, closely followed by Jimmy Carr with his
Terribly Funny stage show. Elsewhere, Birmingham-based female a cappella quintet Black Voices embark on a musical journey through the musical icons of Black Britain, and the London Concert Orchestra returns with a concert of familiar film scores in
The Music of Zimmer vs Williams.

Elsewhere in June, audiences can help celebrate the 70th anniversary of Elvis Presley's first recording date in
Sun Records, The Concert: 70th Anniversary, the official concert show that takes you back to the birthplace of rock'n'roll, while further music treats include American folk singers Bonnie Raitt and Steve Earle, and a 40th-anniversary concert for
Shalamar. There will also be fascinating talks from David Swindle, the detective who brought serial killer Peter Tobin to justice, in
The Makings of a Murderer, and Canadian astronaut and ex-commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield.
The summer season closes in July with
Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice joining forces in hit show
Him and Me, a chance to see jaw-dropping circus skills combined with Broadway and West End musical theatre in Cirque, and, on July 31,
Encanto in Concert: The Film with Live Orchestra, in which Walt Disney Animation Studios’ enchanting film comes to life in a UK tour for the first time.
