Papercutting is a style of art that creates images by making cuts in a piece of paper. Some examples from around the world include the bright red Chinese jianzhi, the colourful mexican paper banners hung up at festivals, and even the art of cutting snow flakes or paper dolls.

Angela Sweet's charismatic papercuts are based around humerous word play. The images are sweet, but also fascinating and intricate. Angela is a member of the Chandler's Ford Art Group and was awarded first place at the Southampton City Art Gallery's 2016 Open Exhibition. The theme was 'Sport' in honour of the 2016 Rio Olympics, and Angela Sweet's papercut 'In the Spotlight', depicting two wrestlers in the ring, took out the top prize.

Sweet Cuts will be on display in the Art Gallery foyer from Saturday 3rd February till Saturday 14th April. Admission to the gallery is free. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am-3pm and Saturday 10am-5pm; the gallery is closed on Sundays.
