Sweeney Todd
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and his accomplice

Michael Ball isn't the first person I would've thought of as perfect to play knife-wielding, pie content-providing Sweeney Todd, but this is what Michael Billington of the Guardian said about his portrayal of Stephen Sondheim's arguably most famous character in his recent stint in Chichester:

"So Ball presents us with a potato-faced, dark-haired guy you could easily pass in a crowd and who only reveals his murderous fixation in private."

Imelda Staunton as Mrs Lovett

His co-star Staunton "also mixes contrapuntal comic relief with a detailed portrait of a woman in whom lust and greed overcome morality," according to Billington.

The music director and supporting cast have also been praised for their roles in this production, and it is this same cast and crew that are coming to the Adelphi Theatre from 10th March to 22nd September 2012.

In this interview with Michael Ball back in October, he talks about the need to challenge people's perceptions of you, and with a role based on a murdering barber, albeit a singing one, in a musical that he admits himself is like marmite - some people love it and some people hate it - he's certainly doing that.

The tickets are going to sell out for Sondheim's masterpiece very quickly - to purchase tickets, please click here.
