For movie-goers The Sundance Music Festival may seem like a long way away, but for filmmakers it is rapidly approaching. The festival, which takes place between 25th-27th April at the O2, showcases the top independent films alongside live music and discussions. Featuring both documentaries and narrative stories, Sundance accepts work from both seasoned directors and first-timers.
But how do they find these talented filmmakers? Do they go scouring the country in search of the next big thing? No, they're not daft. They stay put, right where they are, and let the filmmakers come to them. The Sundance Short Film Competition is open for submissions until the 3rd March, and you are invited to to submit a 3-5 minute film via Youtube or Vimeo. This year's theme is 'Make a go of it' - they want films about moving forward and how to keep moving when times are tough. Judging will be based on the creativity of your idea, how well you stick to the brief, and your execution of the project.
The judges will create a shortlist, after which, voting will be open to the public. Winners will have their film screened at the Sundance Festival, receive a three-night stay at the Langham Hotel, and get other exclusive goodies.
