From Comfort Food to Continental Cuisine

Bored of takeaway meals? Sick of making the same dish again and again? Then why do it? Perhaps you just don't feel confident enough to make anything else, or maybe a few failed attempts have put you off. Cooking can be a fine art, and there are many things that can trip you up along the way.

At the Cookery School on Little Portland Street, you can learn the techniques for preparing all sorts of food, from meat and fish to pastry and bread. You can also find out about different cuisines such as Thai, French, Italian, Indian, or if you prefer the comfort of familiarity, there is traditional British cooking lessons too.

This summer, the Cookery School has a long line of classes scheduled that range from 100 for three hours, 150 for four and a half hours, or 230 for eight hours.


High Tea
19th July

Learn how to make a range of finger sandwiches, scones, tartlets, cakes, and jam, as well as how to set it all out for the perfect afternoon tea with friends.


All Day French
14th June

Learn to make a fabulous all day French meal, with traditional pissaladiere bread, Pistou soup, mustard vinaigrette, fish, hollandaise sauce, roast lamb, Boulangere potatoes, tarte tatin, and ice cream.

Breakfast Baking
17th May & 26th July

Make delicious croissants, brioche, pain au chocolat/raisin, and confectioner's custard.


Indian Masterclass
10th May

Take a step by step class with food writer, Kumud Shah, and learn to make onion bhajis, spicy potato balls, various curries, rices, breads, coriander chutney, tamarind sauce, and a mango lassi.


Pasta, Risotto & Gnocchi
27th May

Learn how to make different pastas using a pasta machine, how to cook good risotto, and various gnocchi dishes.

Tuscan Summer
28th June

Prepare traditional Tuscan dishes such as panzanella salad, ricotta gnocchi, fish, roast lamb, biscotti, and roast peaches with mascarpone sorbet.

Middle Eastern

All Day Middle Eastern
10th May & 5th June

Food to last you the whole day includes pita bread, humous, tzaziki, muhammara, aubergine and tomato salad, spanokopita, grilled fish chermoula, chicken tagine, caramelised onion cous cous, cardamom & rosewater ice cream, and ravani/bassbousa semolina cake


All Day Spanish
31st May

Enjoy a day of cooking and eating as you make tortillas patatas bravas, fried padrone peppers, garlic prawns, chorizo & butter bean stew, rolls, paella, Torta di Santiago, sherry & raisin ice cream, and magdalenas muffins.

9th June

For a smaller helping, go for the tapas cooking lesson, where you will make a few of the above, plus a classic flan.


All Day Thai
17th May

Make a selection of salads and soups, along with spring rolls, rice, and fish cakes.
