Lead Clown From Cirque Du Soleil In First Solo Show
A leading circus clown will be pitching up inside a Midlands theatre rather than the Big Top when he presents an unusual love story next week. Sean Kempton is one of the staple clowns from the famous Cirque du Soleil company which has successfully toured the world for years. On this occasion he will be presenting a show called Stuff, which will be performed at the Lichfield Garrick theatre on Saturday 24 June as part of it's Introducing programme.
Stuff is described as an absurdist show about love - a sort of conventional love story but not like one you are likely to have seen before. The show mixes clowning with comedy and mime, as well as the odd bit of dance. The result promises to be a highly energetic and entertaining physical piece of live theatre that takes the audience on a journey through the fragility, hilarity and awkwardness that love can sometimes entail. Stuff is predominantly a non-verbal 60 minute solo show that was developed from interviews of people from the ages of six right through to 84 on the subjects of love and human connection.

Stuff is the first solo show by Sean who is an international performer, director and teacher specialising in contemporary clown, circus and ensemble based theatre. He first trained as an actor and then as a circus performer at the National Centre of Circus Arts. As an actor he has toured throughout the UK, in repertory theatre, the West End and at the Royal National Theatre Studios. But he has also achieved a hugely successful circus career as a long time staple clown for Cirque Du Soleil in productions including Varekai, Kooza and Quidam, while also creating work and performing for Franco Dragone's Le Reve in Las Vegas and throwing himself around at great heights at the Millenium Dome in London. Sean was a co-founder of the Generating Company and now works as a freelance director for circus, cabaret and theatre while also finding time to teach clowning and physical performance.
Stuff arrives at the Lichfield Garrick's Studio Theatre on Saturday 24 June at 7.45pm. Tickets priced at £12.50 for adults and £10 for students are available online or by calling the box office on 01543 412121.
