New Mini Album Promoted With UK Tour
Oxford Indie band Stornoway are promoting their new mini album, You Don't Know Anything, with a UK tour that visits Birmingham Institute on Sunday, November 24.

Oxford boys: Stornoway

"This record is a collection of songs from the farther extremes of our song writing and arranging spectrum,'' says singer and guitarist Brian Briggs. ''You might spot the influence of artists as wide-ranging as the Flaming Lips, Ray Charles, The Specials, Tom Waits, Gorillaz, Juluka, Beck and Teenage Fanclub.''

Brian, who formed Stornoway with keyboard player Jon Ouin and the Steadman brothers, bassist Oli and drummer Rob, reveals that the tracks on You Don't Know Anything were originally intended for their last release, Tales From Terra Firma.

''They are songs which we are very proud of and which we dearly wanted to include on Tales From Terra Firma but they didnʼt quite fit in with the mood or ʻjourneyʼ of that collection. They are more collaborative than our previous releases, with most of the songs being co-writes, and for the first time they feature some Steadman songwriting."

Back on Terra Firma: Stornoway

Stornoway released their debut album, Beachcomber's Windowsill, in 2010. It was the culmination of a five year journey which had its starting point in a Freshers week meeting at Oxford University between Brian Briggs and the band's arranger and multi-instrumentalist Jon Ouin. Their recruited Oli Steadman through an advert, with his brother Rob completing the line-up as drummer.

The follow-up to Beachcombers Windowsill, Tales From Terra Firma, was mostly written in a camper van in Oxford and was premiered by podcast from a boat marooned on the roof of the Royal Festival Hall in London.
