From Genesis to Birmingham
Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett is tapping into the nostalgia market by revisiting his glory days with the Prog Rock legends.

The 63 year-old musician's forthcoming May tour to promote his latest album, Genesis Revisited II, is proving so popular extra shows have been announced for the autumn.

"Sales have gone ballistic with demand from promoters and fans for extra dates," says Steve. "I'm knocked out with the overwhelmingly positive response and I'm thrilled we're going to do more shows.''

Steve plays Birmingham's Symphony Hall on May 16, with an added date on October 22.

The guitarist played with Genesis between 1970 and 1977, enjoying huge success with albums like Selling England By The Pound alongside Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks.

Big production: Steve Hackett

The Genesis Revisited Tour will be Steve's biggest production in recent years, giving his audience a chance to re-live the legendary band's golden era through classic tracks from both his Genesis Revisited albums, the first of which was released in 1996.
Steve is the first ex-Genesis member to present the band's 1971-77 repertoire on stage and the show will comprise songs co-written by Steve from that period, including Supper's Ready, Dancing With The Moonlit Knight and The Musical Box.

''There'll be some set changes between the two tours but both will have tons of classic favourites,'' says Steve.

Double CD, Genesis Revisited II, features vocalist Nad Sylvan, who will be on stage with Steve for the tour, Nik Kershaw, Simon 'son of Phil' Collins and Marillion's Steve Rothery.

''It's a project of Wagnerian proportions,'' Steve says. ''I've remained true to the spirit of the original songs, whilst changing and highlighting details. The vocalists all contribute their own character to the whole.

''Initially, I was thinking of just going for the best songs not featured on the first album. But then people thought I should do those tracks where the guitar was emphasised. So, I've done both. I've also included four songs with Genesis threads, most of which were written during the period and had a Genesis feel, such as the co-written Shadow of the Hierophant.''

Single CD: Genesis Revisited II - Selection

For those who find a double CD hard to digest a single album, Selection, has just been released.

Explains Steve: ''It features some of my favourite shorter songs and highlights from Genesis Revisited II along with additional track Carpet Crawlers sung by Ray Wilson, who joined Genesis as singer on Calling All Stations. He does a great job here filling Gabriel's shoes, but with his own special style.''
