It is the day that the rural county of Staffordshire celebrates everything that its residents love about the place. On Bank Holiday Monday 1 May, Staffordshire will come alive with events of all shapes and sizes across the county, as well as loads of competitions and special offers from the area's fabulous attractions, restaurants, pubs, and hotels. And, leading the way on this special day, Staffordshire's very own medieval castle will be joining in the fun and excitement. The first official Staffordshire Day took place in 2016, the year that the county celebrated becoming 1000 years old.
The date of May 1st was chosen as it marked the anniversary of Staffordshire's most famous son, Josiah Wedgwood, setting up his pottery company in 1759. Since then, Staffordshire Day has gone on to commemorate the county's captivating countryside, thrilling theme parks, and eye-opening history and heritage - none more so than the 11th century
Tamworth Castle - there will be something for you on Staffordshire Day! The imposing fortress, built following the Norman Conquest, will be celebrating Staffordshire Day 2023 with a family trail for people to learn about legends, folklore and local as well as Staffordshire facts
