St. Nicholas Day is one of the few festival holidays especially for children. It is a day celebrating the legendary character of Father Christmas, and all the gifts he brings to boys and girls. Each year, Better Bankside hold a special Christingle Service in honour of the event. This year they have teamed up with London's oldest church and best food market to make it a magical evening for the family to share.

Southwark Cathedral has been around since at least 606 C.E., and has archaeological evidence that Roman Pagan worship once took place there. It also offered refuge to every kind of person from princes to paupers, and from prisoners to prostitutes. Fourteen hundred years later, Southwark Cathedral is as significant today as it was back then.

On the 4th December at 5.30pm, they will be holding a choral service designed for children. It will include pre-concert events, such as lighting up the Christmas tree, making Christingle oranges, and the chance to meet Santa Claus if you register in advance by emailing [email protected]. During the service, you will light up the candles, then go to Borough Market to socialise over a glass of mulled wine.
