Whenever I see graffiti littering our public spaces a feeling of both sadness and anger wells up inside me. Not only does it make the town look a mess, but it costs taxpayers money to clean up. Vandals who do this also give proper street artists a bad name. The ones who actually have the right to paint the walls with skilled murals can get a bad rep because of a few bad eggs.
Sure they are bored, sure they want to express themselves, but can't they do it in a way that does not damage public property? Yes.
Up until the 22nd December Old Spitalfields Market is giving everyone to set loose their creativity for a graffiti experience with a digital twist. In collaboration with Luma, they have set up a digital graffiti wall and spray can, with which you can paint your own masterpiece in minutes. If you're not keen on the can, then you can also use a touch screen to create Christmas designs and patterns. It is free to take part, and you'll even get your own complimentary postcard printed with your art. For a small fee, you can also have your work printed on a t-shirt or bag.
For people who participate, you will be privy to exclusive deals at the shops and stalls around the market. Just show them your postcard, and shop away. These deals happen at a different venue each day:
