Speed listening, speed dating. Is exactly what it sounds like; exchanging music with a complete stranger in quick fire, dating fashion. The setting for this amorous affair was uber cool bar, slash, shop, slash cafe in King's Cross; 'Drink, Shop & Do'.

Hosted by The Note Well; a music appreciation friendship project. They run regular events that aren't always about singletons hooking up.

The girls stick on their allocated number as well as their name, to move around the space engaging in a seven minute date with the boys on offer. The age range was 25-35 and the atmosphere was somewhat hang-loose.

I had never done speed dating before and wasn't taking it too seriously. It seems weird to tick a box to show your approval for your datee as they sit there watching your every move. No real time to reflect, no privacy, as you're herded on. At the end I couldn't remember the corresponding letters of the guys I liked. So I ended up ticking all the boxes! Bettering my chance of a match or setting myself up for a massive fall.

I dragged my friend along for the ride. She was not impressed in the slightest half-way through, but really got into the spirit of things when all was said and done. The majority of attendants took their music taste VERY seriously. My friend on the other hand, played S Club 7 without a moment's thought. One of the reasons why I love her!

If you've ever wanted to go speed dating but have been worried about the possibility of awkwardness, then speed listening tries to eliminate that. If love doesn't blossom for you, at least you come away with a handful of music recommendations.
