Birmingham’s The Heath Bookshop has a packed programme of author talks this November and December including discussions with actor Richard Armitage, comedians Joe Wilkinson and Henry Paker and poet Brian Bilston.

Hollywood actor turned thriller writer Richard Armitage will be discussing his book Geneva on 25 November at King Edward Camp Hill School for Girls in Kings Heath. The actor is perhaps best known for playing Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, Guy of Gisborne in the BBC series Robin Hood and John Thornton in the BBC adaptation of North and South.

Geneva, his first novel, follows the adventures of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Sarah Collier as she visits a biotech conference in Geneva and discovers all may not be what it first appears.

Beginning at 7pm, Richard will be in conversation with crime fiction writer Jo Callaghan, author of In the Blink of an Eye.

Award-winning comedians Joe Wilkinson and Henry Paker join forces for a discussion on 29 November at 6.30pm at the CBSO Centre in Berkley Street.

Joe is a regular panellist on television shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Have I Got News For You and Never Mind the Buzzcocks and hosts the podcast Chatabix with actor and comedian David Earl. He will be discussing his autobiography with Henry Paker who illustrated the book.

Henry co-writes and performs in the Radio 4 sitcom ReincarNathan and co-hosts the Three Bean Salad podcast.

Known as the Banksy of Poetry, Brian Bilston will be sharing verse from his latest collection And So This is Christmas on 7 December at 6.30pm at Birmingham City University’s City South Campus in Edgbaston,

His new book features fifty-one poems in celebration of the festive season - from family traditions to work Christmas parties. Hugely popular on social media, Brian’s previous books have included You Took the Last Bus Home and Diary of a Somebody which was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award and the McKitterick Prize.

Opened last year, The Heath Bookshop is based in Kings Court in Kings Heath and run by two reading enthusiasts Catherine Gale and Claire Dawes.

They said: “We are so excited about the author events coming up in the next few months. We’ve been incredibly lucky over the last 14 months to welcome the A-List of authors to our shop from Kit de Waal to Grace Dent and so to add the likes of Richard Armitage, Joe Wilkinson and Henry Paker to that list is amazing as well as a return visit from Brian Bilston. Not only do we want to shout about books and reading but we want to be part of the story of amazing events happening in Birmingham and in particular our corner of Kings Heath. We hope to see you at one of our author events this winter."
