The Southern Shores exhibition at the Gosport Gallery showcases a collection of works from the Southampton City Art Gallery that feature the shores of England's south coast. The paintings may all feature the same subject, but the collection of 19th and 20th century paintings is an interesting and eclectic mix. The exhibition will be at The Gallery at the Gosport Discovery Centre from the 13th of January till the 17th of March 2018.
The people, the cities and the towns that dot England's southern shores have always had a strong relationship with the sea. With economies that have been built around ships, from trade to military to tourism, to weekends spent lazing by the beach or cruise ship spotting at the harbour. This exhibition has been curated to celebrate the shores that we call home.
The exhibition will be on at The Gallery for around 2 months, from the 13th of January till the 17th of March. The exhibition is free, but there is a recommended donation of £3 per person. The Gallery is part of the Gosport Discovery Centre, which is managed by the Hampshire Cultural Trust. It's located about 20miles from Southampton.
The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and it is closed on Sundays.
If you don't fancy the drive to Gosport for the exhibition, you can always make your way to the Southampton City Art Gallery once the works are back on show. There's no guarantee that all selected works will be on display, but the art gallery is well worth a visit at any time.
