I'm discovering Southampton along with you!
Event: -
Throughout the term time, the Southampton City Art Gallery works with schools to provide a range of fun and educational activities. But school groups aren't the only ones who can take part in these programs. The Southampton City Art Gallery has plenty of workshops and sessions running throughout the Easter school holidays for kids to have some fun, learn a bit more about art, and perhaps even get a little bit crafty. The school holidays run from Friday March 30th until Sunday April 15th.

Wire wrapping is a craft where wire is twisted and bent to create different shapes and designs. It can be used for jewellery and other decorations, but another popular use of wire wrapping is to create wire trees. These are reminiscent of Japanese bonsai plants, but instead of a living plant, the tree is created from many strips of wire. In this workshop, kids will learn skills and techniques for wire wrapping, and they'll be able to take their creations home with them. The workshop is inspired by the gallery's Four Seasons exhibition. Children should bring along a packed lunch. Children under 8 will require a parent to stay for the duration of the session.
Cost: £20
Ages 7-13y

This is another activity inspired by the Four Seasons exhibition. It seems especially fitting to be exploring the four seasons, as we seem to have experienced a bit of everything over the last few weeks. In this activity, children will create textured wall hangings using different materials and techniques. They'll be able to take inspiration from the four seasons, think things like blooming flowers, fallen leaves, fresh snow, or summer swims.

This is a bit of Easter fun with a little bit of a difference. Instead of baby chicks or chocolate eggs, this activity will have children hatching something a bit more peculiar. Children will be working with clay to create their own baby dinosaur and matching dinosaur egg. It's a change to get a little bit creative, and perhaps a little bit messy too.

With the influx of Easter decorations in stores and Easter crafts all over the internet, you might find yourself asking what do you do with all the fluffy chicks and decorative eggs. This workshop has a few ideas. Kids will make their own mini chicks and will 'pickle' them in a jar to display at home. There's no vinegar involved, and definitely no real baby chicks, just a bit of fun crafting they can keep on the shelf.
