A round the world trip over two shop floors

Berwick Street seems to be the home of all the best record shops in Soho - or so you would believe. Here is another one, which is secreted off a sidestreet, and is possibly one of the best of all...

In fact, I think it would be fair to say that the name of this store IS the best among them - I mean, how can you argue with a place called Sounds of the Universe?

It has one of the most diverse selections of music too - ranging from Electronic through to French Pop, African through to Latin - you can even find a touch of Bollywood, if that's what you're looking for...

With such a worldwide-sourced collection of music (they regularly get shipments from the USA, Jamaica, Japan, Brazil and Europe), it is pretty sure that you're taste, whatever it may be, will be catered for.

Looking for something a bit older, or even hard-to-find? Give them a go too, as they also have a large collection of rare original vinyl, with artwork on some that would look just as good framed and on your sitting room wall as the vinyl would on your turntable.

I know that to some of you, all this talk of vinyl will not move you at all, as with the popularity of mp3 and digital formats you may think that there's nothing here for you - well hang in there, as I've not got to what happens when you go downstairs...

Once you've wound your way to the basement, you will find that the ideas of the shop spread to DVD and book titles - with books you're unlikely to find anywhere else presenting themselves to you from the bookshelves downstairs - for example, how many books on the origins of Capoeira, the Brazilian dance/martial art have you seen? Well, you can find it here...

Opening the door to Sounds of the Universe is like looking through the world's record collection - an education in itself - so isn't it time to get educated?
