Growers and distillers of the finest English Lavender

I didn't think twice when I was invited to go to this place. Firstly, Cotswolds is a stunning part of England. Secondly, visiting a lavender farm in the heart of Cotswolds Hills is certainly a unique experience.

Snowshill Lavender is a third generation family business placed in the Hill Barn farm, near Broadway and the Vale of Evesham.

There are 35 different varieties of lavender growing in the fields and a total of 450.000 plants. The numbers are quite impressive and visiting these fields is the best way to understand the magnitude of this project.

Traditionally a Mediterranean plant, the lavender has been harvested successfully in Cotswold Lavender farm for nearly two decades. And all these plants are essentially used to make a variety of products that are also sold in the gift shop on the farm.

It seems a very simple process, but only when you step in the fields and visit the distillery can you truly comprehend the scale of the farm's lavender production.

Steam distillation is used here as it was used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans. As no chemicals are used, only pure essential oils are produced in Cotswolds' Snowshill Lavender.

The best time to visit is during the British summer when the lavenders are full bloom. The variety of plants in different tones of colour is an experience that is best enjoyed walking through the fields on a good sunny day.

Check the opening times because the farm usually closes for visits when the harvest starts. With an entrance ticket that costs only 2.50 (adults) and 1.50 (children under 16), the Lavender Farm is quite popular among tourist visiting Cotswolds.

The gift shop is where you can find all products produced in the place. The quality of oils and soaps, even chocolate and tea made of lavender justify the prices. And if you have some extra time, also check the farm's tearoom for some cakes and hot drinks.
