The Slug and Lettuce in Kingston upon Thames is different to the others in this chain, because it is located in a beautiful area just by the riverside. But unlike the other, rather expensive, restaurants in the surrounding area on the river banks, The Slug and Lettuce is as always reliable for the savvy saver. They have deals for days of the week such as half price food on Mondays, which is fantastic unbeatable value, as well as 'Tikka Tuesdays' with two for one curries.

Even if you don't end up here on a 'saving day,' don't fret. None of the meals are over £11 and there are even seven main meals available at £6.25! Surprisingly, the quality of the food does not suffer due to the cost, although it is of course not the best taste sensation to ever have graced my lips, it isn't what you might expect from the price tag. The food in general is basically good quality pub food, with good portion sizes, but some dishes are of course better than others. For example, the burgers I recommend highly, but I would give the chilli con carne a miss.

Now for a dangerous piece of information about the Slug and Lettuce – tell only who you must. For those that enjoy a drink this info will be gold dust; on Thursdays and Saturdays from 4pm…cocktails are two for one. So all cocktails work out to be less than £4.50 each! But before you get too excited and run on down there, there's more: there is also a 'sharing selection' of cocktails available, designed for four drinkers, making this the perfect starting place for a group night out on the town. But don't despair if your not a cocktail fan, Wednesday is the wine day at The Slug and Lettuce; all bottles of wine are £10.95.

For those of you with a sweet tooth, I highly recommend the special hot chocolates to warm you up on a chilly day. The most exciting thing about them is that they come in a variety of flavours including chocolate orange and mint and they are available with all the trimmings such as marshmallows and whipped cream.

The space itself in The Slug and Lettuce is modern, friendly and spacious. It also has an outside seating area which, in nice weather, is lovely. The staff here are pleasant and friendly and always provide great customer service. The Slug and Lettuce is also a great place to pop into for some breakfast as the serve a wonderfully inexpensive breakfast menu up to 12pm, which includes a full English for £5.45.
