Located on the course of the 'River Aire', the 'Leeds-Liverpool Canal' and known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' is a town by the name of Skipton.

Although this quaint town has more to it than simply Skipton. 'The Gateway to the Dales', 'A Market Town' and 'Sheep Town' and live up to these names it does.

'The Gateway to the Dales', well, Skipton, is truly a gateway to somewhere at the very least. When one enters the streets of Skipton, it is like you are taken away from time, time stands still and no schedules are needed. Long, canny walks along the 'Leeds-Liverpool Canal', climbs to the top of a steep incline by the name of 'Sharpaw' to take in the breathtaking, birds eye view from the heights of the dales themselves. Linger in the exquisite scenery of the 'Gateway to the Dales' and never regret a moment of the tranquillity.

Of course, if trekking the landscapes isn't your cup of Yorkshire tea, there is always 'A Market Town' to consider. Having evolved someone from its formative years, the Skipton Market has traded sheep's wool for more modern attire. From tools to bric-a-brac-, from sweets to olives, from fluorescent coats to stylish slacks, the market has it all. Forget the modern day butchers and make your way to the market one Saturday and be greeted by the auctioning of top quality meat, a new experience for anyone. Over look the shops and café's and give in to jacket spuds and chip butties outside in the sun off the food wagons. Although ,of course, there is always a exception to any rule, when it rains you have the exception to run and hide in a cafe.

Now, it is said that Skipton got it's third but not least name from trading sheep on its olden day market. 'Sheep Town' holds a lot of history for the town. After sheep travelled to 'The Gateway to The Dales' for over a hundred years to be traded, it was inevitable that a memoir would be left behind, to be celebrated annually. So here we are, in the 21st century holding a annual 'Sheep day' at the beginning of July every year. Celebrating the history is just part of it though, not to be forgot is the crafts of the countryside and brining the bright countryside to the town; meaning you don't have to get your wellies on to enjoy the greenery.

Whether you live in a city, are a resident of Skipton or from any where else try out Skipton, remember it's not just a simple name.

This is the town of four names. Skipton, 'The Gateway to The Dales', 'A Market Town' and 'Sheep Town'.
