Skin Beautiful London will pamper you from outside to inside
In the 1933 film Roman Scandals, Eddie Cantor exhorted women to 'keep young and beautiful'. These words are rather demeaning to women and in 1992 Annie Lennox covered the song in a rather ironic fashion on her album Diva.
However you interpret the words to the tune, we women still endeavour to remain looking young, or younger, than we actually are as we try to live up to the images that bombard us from the media. Radical plastic surgery is now frowned upon (you can take that as a pun if you want), but there are gentler ways of keeping the ravages of time at bay. The Skin Beautiful London team from the Sainsbury Wing at Hammersmith Hospital have recently opened a salon in Greenford, West London where they can help you to fight the ageing process.

Vimala, who has a background in dermatology and health care, is in charge and is assisted by Lakshika, a qualified beauty therapist, and Marie, a nurse. Other members of staff include both a consultant dermatologist and part time beauty therapists. The medically qualified practitioners treat skin conditions, administer Botox and fillers and remove skin tags and Milia. The range of other treatments on offer include threading, waxing, massage, manicures (both gel and natural nails) and pedicures, facials, CACI facials, chemical peels, laser hair removal and henna designs. Eddie Cantor would probably be surprised to find out that many of the above are also available to men, many of whom are also aware of the need to keep young and beautiful. As they say: 'what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander'.
I spent a gloriously self-indulgent hour at Skin Beautiful. Each treatment room is painted in a different and relaxing colour and the couches are covered with mattresses filled with a warm liquid. My sixty minutes began with a facial wash and tone followed by Microdermabrasion – a treatment to remove surface cells and to promote the regrowth of new skin and collagen. Lakshika then applied a special pre-formed Hydro Smoothing Gel Facial Mask designed to hydrate, moisturise and replenish my skin. Whilst this was in place she used small hydrotone rollers to massage my face, neck and décolletage. This helps to improve lymphatic drainage, nourish the skin and restore muscle tone and firmness to the facial muscles. Finally I had a deeply relaxing massage of my face, neck and shoulders as well as the top of my spine and the base of my skull. It was such an enjoyable experience that I wanted to stay for the rest of the day.
