The British musical success story of a generation, Tony Award-winning SIX is back on tour to Malvern.

This 'girl band' of Henry VIII's six wives are at Malvern Theatres until October 29 in a hilarious, feminist show that continues to feel fresh after five years. Telling their 'her-story' in their own inimitable song styles, the competition of which queen had it the worst journeys through pop, techno, hip hop and more.

While the songs are catchy, this production's forte is about the clever comedy rather than the music. All the characters are a revelation along with the all female band, the Ladies-in-Waiting.

Anne Boleyn and Catherine of Aragon's sparring is a real treat thanks to the chemistry between Jennifer Caldwell and Chloe Hart playing those roles. It's a strong cast all round though.

Jaina Brock-Patel's voice as Katherine Parr shines bright with the big solo number I Don't Need Your Love.

Yet the more tender, difficult moments about sexual exploitation and the lack of women's rights in Tudor Britain stand out the most. They are handled well, with plenty of wit, to make that pill easier to swallow for the mostly female audience.

These subjects plus the fact that some of the double entendres and jokes are risqué is why it has a recommended age of 10 .

Created by students Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, since premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017, SIX has soared to success. It's gone on to become one of the hottest theatre shows in the UK and abroad, winning a Tony Award for Best Original Score.

Even now, tickets are like gold dust at Malvern as people of all ages, across generations, are keen to see this multi-dimensional musical.

It's short at around 80 minutes with no interval but intense and fast-paced that feels complete and satisfying at that length.

Right now, SIX is the queen of musicals and it's still a right royal treat. If you're lucky enough to get a ticket it, cherish it while you can.
