From Process to Product
Antoine Davenne, Maintenance, from the series MMH, poster, 2011
When going to to an art exhibit, most people expect to see the work on display finished and ready for viewing. Not with Situation I Event. This new two-month programme run by Gasworks explores the journey art goes through, looking at the process from the starting idea to finished product.
Up until the 8th September, a series of events will take place, including workshops, talks, and live performances, from a range of different artists. All of these are free to attend, but it is recommended that you book in advance by calling 44(0)20 7587 5202.
The featured artists in the project have a temporal, social, and performative theme, and experiment with contemporary forms. You will be able to see their work in progress over the coming weeks, until they reach the finished result at the end of the programme.
During this period, they will be open to feedback from their audience, and give demonstrations during special events. For example, Producing Lines by French director, Antoine Davenne is an unfinished play. On the 24th & 27th July, and 4th August, there will be performances that lie somewhere between a rehearsal and staged show. Another artist includes, Alex Cecchetti, who asks the question 'Do invisible things see visible things', in his project, 'Thingying That Thing With The Thingum', which can be seen until the 27th July. For a full schedule, you can see their programme.
