You Shout Out The Setting And Genre, We'll Create A Musical
If you like a bit of improvisation with your live entertainment then this show is definitely for you. Showstopper! The Improvised Musical promises to deliver spontaneous musical comedy at its finest. Showstoppers is a brand new production that entirely takes shape from scratch at each performance.
So, depending on the creativity of the audience, you could end up with a Sondheim-style musical set on a ski lift or Cole Porter doing his stuff in a pound shop. All the audience has to do is suggest it and the Showstoppers cast will do their utmost to sing it.
Showstoppers, which won the 2016 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family, began life as a workshop at the Actors' Centre in London, when Dylan Emery, Adam Meggido and Ken Campbell took a group of actors with little or no improvisation experience and within a week attempted to get them to perform an hour-long musical in front of a packed house. It proved so successful that the idea developed into a fully-fledged show involving a group of professionals.
As well as staging live performances, the Showstoppers also offer a range of workshops catering to all levels of ability and experience for anyone possibly wanting to try their skills at improvisation for the first time.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical takes place at the Lichfield Garrick theatre on Wednesday 9 November from 7.30pm. Tickets priced £16.50 are available online or by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121. Audiences are advised that the show is suitable for children aged 14 plus.
