Unlike its sponsor, there is nothing oily about the musicians performing for the Southbank Centre's Shell Classic International. Between the 1st October - 8th June 2014, a selection of the world's finest orchestras will be making their debut. For example, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Swingle singers on the 25th October to give a night of sixties music from Berio, Guarnieri, and Bernstein. They will be conducted by Marin Aslop, who recently became the first woman to conduct The Last Night of the Proms.
Also making an appearance will be the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra from South America, and their younger sister group, Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra, which shows of the talents of 14-19 year old musicians, who will be performing The Firebird Suite and The Three-Cornered.
The season will start with two Mozart concerts, then move on to performances from the San Francisco Symphony and Italian Chorus of Santa Cecilia. Tickets for each concert range from £10-£85.
