After a succession of failed cafes occupying the site at 28a Sheen Lane in East Sheen, something a bit different has finally opened there that I think has a chance of sticking around.



Yes, Sheen Lane finally has a fish and chip shop, and unlike the cafes that came before it, is more likely to succeed because there isn't another traditional fish and chip shop nearby. So, us residents of Mortlake and East Sheen now have a chippy to pop into when we can't be bothered to cook or need something to eat after a night out, and one Monday evening me and my husband decided to try it out.



offers a selection of battered fish: cod (small £5 / large £6), haddock, plaice or rock (£5.50), as well as fishcakes, scampi and calamari. To accompany the fish, traditional style chips cost £1.70 for a small portion, or £2.50 for large, and an array of sides and sauces such as curry sauce, tartar sauce, pickled gherkin or mushy peas will add that little bit extra to your fish supper.



Of course there are other options aside from fish, including pies - steak & kidney, beef & onion, chicken & mushroom - for £2.50, sausgaes - battered, unbattered or saveloy - for £1.60, chicken nuggets (from £2.50 for 6), and an array of Southern fried chicken options, including a range of meal deals. There are also three children's meal options - nuggets, cod bites or chicken - for £3.50, and a selection of drinks including beer and wine. We went for traditional fish and chips, and weren't disappointed!



We opted to take away and eat at home, but there were tables both inside and out if you want to eat in. The premises are brand new, so completely clean and well presented. is open Monday to Thursday 11.30 - 22.00, and Friday & Saturday 11.30 - 22.30. It is closed on Sundays. You can phone ahead with your order on 0208 617 1662 if you don't want to wait around and they currently have a promotion offering a free bottle of wine on orders over £40 and a free bottle of soft drink for orders over £20. We will definitely be returning the next time we don't fancy cooking!
