I'm a Mum of two boys living in Oxfordshire, enjoying lots of fun activities and writing about them when I get a chance.
Award Winning Stand Up Comedian
Now that all the parties from Christmas are over and the nights are still long, it's very tempting to stay warm indoors and not venture out. However, there's nothing better than a really good laugh so set your spirit soaring. The Arts Depot in Barnes will host a comedy performance from Shazia Mirza and her latest show 'Cuckooland' for one night only on Saturday 9th February. The Arts Depot was built as part of the regeneration of North Finchley and is the only professional arts venue in the area.
An award winning stand up comedian and writer, Shazia has delighted audiences across the world. Her reviews are glowing and I'm sure you'd really enjoy her latest show. You might already know her work from her column in the Guardian, have caught a previous show or seen her on a television appearance like BBC's Have I Got News For You. She's even had her own BBC3 documentary (F*** Off I'm A Hairy Woman) which received over 600,000 viewings on its first transmission. She was also the first women to perform comedy in Pakistan back in 2008.
Shazia Mirza is a Brummy and has an interesting background and dedication to comedy. Instead of choosing a life married to a rich man and enjoying countless luxuries, she chose the comedy scene and has worked her way up from the bottom with a richly deserved success coming her way.
The latest tour Cuckooland is described in the blurb as "Anyone can be anything, do anything and say anything. Who cares what anyone thinks, you're going to say it anyway!. You have to be a bit deluded but some people are just living in Cuckooland!". It promises to be full of laughs. If you can't make this date, check Shazia Mirza's website for a list of other venues.
The performance at the Arts Depot starts at 8pm with tickets priced at £14 (concessions £12) and only available for aged 14 and over.
