San Marco Restaurant

An old mill in a Cheshire town is hardly the place you'd expect to find one of the best Italian restaurants in the county, but it really only adds to the rustic charm and allure you'd expect to find in an authentic Mediterranean restaurant.
If you're sick of chain Italian restaurants offering the same old dishes,
San Marco is the perfect antidote. If you have read my other reviews, you will know I am mad about authentic Italian food, so naturally, San Marco's was a haven for me.
[ADVERT]My friend chose this place for her birthday meal, and for an intimate gathering of those closest to you, San Marco is perfect.
I opted for a haloumi and chorizo starter, with a prawn tagliatelle for main. I've never had haloumi deep-fried before, but I was pleasantly surprised by my starter. My main was delicious. The sauce was minimal and therefore drier than the Anglicised versions of Italian dishes we are so used to (but that's the way they were intended to be).
According to the other guests, even the simplest pizzas were made beautifully. The selection of wines and spirits were also rather extensive, which went down very well with the birthday girl.
Sandbach can be reached from Manchester via the M6.
