Last weekend a friend introduced me to the hipster heights of Rooftop Cinema Club hosted by The Queen of Hoxton. The Queen of Hoxton is located in the heart of trend-setting East London and it delivers an array of events that surpass that of the average nightclub. Perfect if you're looking for something a little more inventive than a quick pint down your local.

This trendy spot is squeezed into a thin, tall building on the corner of an almost derelict street. There are three floors filled with booze, music and good lighting - an ingredient I think is essential to the atmosphere of any cool bar.

Immediately, I was pleasantly surprised; I was expecting the place to be a let-down due to its hype- sometimes what is considered cool in London can actually be grimy and in need of a lick of paint. But The Queen of Hoxton was almost magical- East London's hidden gem.

We climbed the stairs to the rooftop where we were greeted by a barbecue, a small bar serving everything from beer to frozen margaritas and lots of people enjoying an amazing view of London as the sunset. It's these kinds of moments that make me I fall in love with London all over again - you can always find a hidden treasure that you immediately want to share with everyone else.

This particular night was slightly different due to the impending screening of golden oldie, Dirty Dancing. The rooftop is usually just another place in the club to relax and have a drink but at The Queen of Hoxton Five nights a week throughout the summer, from Tuesday 1st May - Thursday 30th August 2012 there is a film screening.

The Queen of Hoxton teams up with The Rooftop Cinema Club Company to create a whimsical summery cinema experience. As non-ticket holders are turfed out and seats are arranged into to rows the rooftop is prepped for the screening. Popcorn, sweets and free blankets are available along with headphones in order for you to have the ultimate cinema experience on top of the roof- but, don't fret the bar is still open throughout the film.

After a slight panic about seating arrangements and once the sun had almost retired for the evening everyone settled down to watch the film projected onto a reasonably sized screen. However do not expect a regular cinema experience.

As the Rooftop Cinema Club tends to only play iconic films everybody is there to relive a classic piece of film history- so singing, dancing and swooning over Swayze ensued from the outset. A personal highlight was the round of applause and cheering for tagline, nobody puts baby in the corner followed by everyone singing their hearts out to I've had the time of my life. I was delighted, a fun filled evening with like-minded people all set under the stars.

It was a truly fun evening that was seamlessly conducted by the friendly staff. It is a great spot for a first date or to have laugh with friends. All attendees of the Rooftop Cinema Club are able to stay to party afterwards in the club area downstairs.

If Hoxton isn't your scene you can also find The Rooftop Cinema Club in Kensington at The Roof Gardens.

My Top tips are:

Head to the website and book in advance- the tickets sell out fast! Tickets are around £10 for all films.

Dress suitably, it can get a little chilly when the sun goes down- although there is the added bonus of free blankets! Also if it rains the show will still go on!

Remember the rooftop is an open air space so people are allowed to smoke- just be mindful of others around you!

You can't bring your own food and drink so be sure to have some spare cash on you for drinks and snacks. Both rooftops offer freshly prepared barbecues.

Films start at about 9- you can get there earlier to relax and enjoy a drink but don't worry about getting there early to grab a seat- there are enough seats for all and they are not set out to right before the film starts.
