There are times when you want to treat yourself to something nice. Could be pay day, a birthday, or a day when you just feel like splashing out. Here's a way you can take that idea and really enjoy the results.
I recently visited
Roka, and the first thing you notice is the lovely, naturalistic decor - with everything in full view of the central grill area. Everything here is not just prepared within full view of the eager customers, it is a central part of the whole experience.
As well as this, and my main reason for writing, is the shochu lounge located just underneath the restaurant. This is the place to go for me, as it combines the best of the restaurant with some really inspired cocktails.
Now, for those who have been uninitiated, let me tell you a little about
shochu, this is a rice wine spirit from Japan, which can be drunk by itself, but is more commonly enjoyed as the basis of mixers and cocktails. It is these very cocktails that are worth heading for, as you may not have tried anything like them, with their natural flavours and pleasant taste sensations. Take a sip, close your eyes and you may even get a real sensation of being Tokyo, staring out of a bar in Roppongi, or in a hotel bar in Shinjuku.
The lovely decor in the Shochu lounge compliments that of the restaurant upstairs, and if you're feeling peckish, well you have all of the options of the menu from the restaurant to choose from - you see, the best of both worlds.
Now, what excuse can you think of for going there now, surely it's somebody's birthday somewhere.
