River House at Black Swan Arts

One of the first places we stopped for breakfast when we were visiting Frome to see if we wanted to live here was the River House, then perched on the bridge looking over the river. I didn't realise at first that the yard you can see from the footbridge to the car park of the Cheese & Grain is the back of that venue - looking like something from Florence.
They moved around the corner this year though and can now be found in the bigger space that is the Black Swan Arts Centre
The Black Swan itself offers all sorts of things, including a gallery and a co-working space upstairs.
The cafe space takes up the outside courtyard which gets the sun and also houses plenty of lovely plants.
There is plenty of space here or inside if you prefer and it needs to have the space because this is one of the most popular spots in town.
Their menu is simple but the quality is great and they have some unusual options which makes it interesting.
It's an all-day breakfast kind of vibe with simple dishes like breakfast baps and granola bowls to more interesting dishes like Nam-egg-stay, which is creamy scrambled eggs with pea houmous and pistachio dukkah, or the Papa-Rosti - paprika-spiced rosti with greens, poached egg and either chorizo or for the veggie option delicious coconut bacon.
They have vegan options as well, the Sweet Beets, for example, a beetroot and sweetcorn fritter with greens and carrot houmous.
I think the best value is in the breakfasts but then you end up with a mighty plate of food - this is the veggie breakfast:
On top of all the food and super atmosphere, they also do good coffee, tempting cakes and brownies and very good smoothies as well.
The cakes definitely come recommended.
