The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is truly the highlight of the gardening year. An event not to be missed held in the grounds of the prestigious Royal Hospital Chelsea. It is open to the public from the 22nd to the 26th of May 2018.

The hospital is unique as it is the home of the Chelsea Pensioners who are retired soldiers of the British Army. Thousands of people attend The Chelsea Flower Show every year to see the glorious exhibits of flowers on display.

Something special is on display at the Chelsea Flower Show this year. Bowden's Nursery Pty Ltd are proud to present The Royal Egg to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Her Majesty's Coronation.

The Royal Egg was designed and created by Jim Frecklington. It is fashioned in the style of a Faberge Egg. Bowden's Nursery have created a spectacular setting this year at The Chelsea Flower Show for the Royal Egg. Coronation memorabilia will be displayed along the edges of the path leading to The Royal Egg. Bowden's Hostas, Bamboos and Ferns will be on show as well.

Jim Frecklington will be at the Chelsea Flower Show daily. He will be delighted to give the public any information of interest about the Royal Egg. Jim was born in Parkes N.S.W. Australia. He left Australia as a young man and lived in London. Here he worked for the Royal Household looking after the ceremonial horses at The Royal Mews in Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

In 1977, Jim managed The Royal Coach Exhibition staged throughout Australia to commemorate The Queen's Silver Jubilee.
After this exhibition, he believed the art of building The Royal Coaches should be preserved.

The Royal Egg is made of eighteen-carat gold and is encrusted with diamonds and pearls. The crown at the top of the egg is a miniature of the St. Edward's Crown worn by Her Majesty on the day of her Coronation.

The decoration below the crown is taken from Her Majesty's Coronation Gown. The design around the girth of the egg has come from the robe that was attached to the gown. On one side of the Royal Egg, a hand-painted portrait of Her Majesty is displayed.
On the opposite side is a hand painted portrait of Prince Philip.
The two portraits are surrounded by diamonds.

Jim Frecklington has commissioned the world's finest craftsmen to assist in making this timeless masterpiece. The attention to detail is exceptional. It is truly an item of beauty that will be admired for centuries to come.

The unique surprise inside the Royal Egg when opened is a superb eighteen-carat gold miniature of the Diamond Jubilee State Coach. The Royal Egg, when mounted on its stand, is approximately twelve inches high.

Last year at the Chelsea Flower Show , the Australian State Coach was on display courtesy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The Australian State Coach was envisioned by Jim Frecklington, who then went on to design and build it. This Coach was presented to The Queen to commemorate Australia's Bicentenary.

The State Coaches built by Jim are on display in The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace. The Royal Mews is open to the public daily.

The delightful photo of the Australian State Coach above shows the retired soldiers who live in The Royal Chelsea Hospital acting as volunteers. These proud men who have served their country well dress up in their colourful uniforms to be hosts to the visitors who attend The Chelsea Flower Show. I find this charming and like the fact that these men are able to be looked after and enjoy their retirement in The Royal Hospital at Chelsea.
