A bit of Warhol Guv'nor?
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom

Government covers legal policies, dictates general public conduct, and is more than a talking point when it comes to the issue of tax. But who thought 'government' was synonymous with renaissance classics and avant garde paintings? Well, the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is privy to such a collection - a government collection, and so are you!

Nearly 200 pieces are being exhibited in the Gas Hall, which is a first outside of London. With free admission and a cafe inside for when you've had enough admiring the unusual, and the revered, the gallery is worth a day out. It's fun for the kids, and a great way to while away the hours of a weekend. Feel humbled by the greatness of the art before your eyes, and wonder at the scale and thought behind each lick of paint.

Opening times:

Monday - Thursday: 10am-5pm
Saturday: 10am-5pm
Sunday: 12.30-5pm
