- The heart of Green Park Market
is a wonderful record store in Bath's Green Park Market, housed in what was once a busy Victorian Railway station. The beautiful glass roof remains, but the whole area beneath the roof has been transformed into a bustling area of shops, eateries and businesses, with a large open area now used for markets and fayres. At its beating heart is , which always plays awesome tunes when I walk past.
The shop itself is brilliant and I can easily spend over an hour just browsing the records and enjoying the music being played. Behind the counter are two turntables in constant use, and the staff always play a variety of different genres throughout the day. They are very friendly and welcoming gentlemen, and this, combined with the great sounds that they play, mean that everybody who walks through the door has a wide grin on their face. I love going there.
Something for everybody- from record rookies to vinyl hounds
There are racks and racks of records, carefully labelled and sorted into genres and time periods. There must be several thousand records on sale at any one time, and this is not counting the hundreds of 'bargain' LP's and 45's outside the shop. These are phenomenally great value, and I have found some great treasures there.
Inside, there are so many treasures to be found. Adorning the walls are rows and rows of LP's, many of them rare and beautiful just to look at. There are rare pressings as well as more available titles, but the chaps in the shop handle and display them all with equal care. On my last visit there I aimed to just have a look around, but came out with a Jimi Hendrix and a Black Sabbath LP, a Resolution bag and a beautiful greetings card with a vinyl theme. The place is irresistible.
All you need for superb sounds and sound systems
Another impressive aspect of Resolutions is the array of vintage and more contemporary stereo equipment for sale. The shop sells turntables, amplifiers and speaker systems, and they are of high quality. They also look fantastic and are proudly displayed by retro lava lamps and spinning disco balls. I feel better just being in the place, and love the energetic, happy atmosphere that the place has. I've been collecting records for over 20 years now, and Resolution have bought several of my LP's. They were honest buyers and gave me a fair price for them. I'm thinking of going to do a few trades there, which is another sterling service that they offer.
This really is a welcoming and friendly place to visit and makes its customers feel welcome. Within the shop are leather sofas with cool cushions, for folks to have a sit and a listen. I have found some record stores to be a little frosty and aloof, but never get that feeling here. The boss man and his staff clearly love music and worship vinyl themselves and enjoy listening to it. Perhaps that is what I love most about the place. It is so, so much more than a business. It feels like a club or a society. Long, long may it remain so.
