A decade made famous for: Frankie Says Relax t-shirts, The ZX Spectrum, Pacman, Coq au Vin, The A-Team, neon...I could go on.
Love it or hate it, it was an exceptionally creative and influential decade, with great movies (the Terminator, Rocky sequels), tv (Knight Rider, Dallas) and of course music. One of the most famous bands to come out of that era were Duran Duran, and it's from one of their famous hits which is probably were this club in the Square Mile got it's name.
The club is The Reflex, and it is unashamedly celebratory of the era, it's fashions and its music. One of the joyous things about the place is how it takes the best of the era and brings it bang up to date. Look at the cocktail menu, you will see famous cocktails like the ubiquitous Sex On The Beach, but with a twist. You can choose the vessel your cocktails come in - meaning a sundae glass if you want to keep it to yourself, going all the way up to a Rubik's Cube glass for those drinking in groups of 4 or more - ace (to coin a phrase from the era).
Currently open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, it obviously makes sense if you dress up for the occasion, and they will even extend the free entry for those that do - so getting yourself into the mood of the place is very much worth it. The upcoming Superheroes Weekender could definitely make for an interesting dancefloor (Incredible Hulks dancing with Wonderwomans I can well envisage there).
Do I really need to say any more? I think if you have any reason to celebrate at all, get yourself along there, pop open a bottle of something fizzy and get down to the music - I think "Come On Eileen" is just about to start...
