My girlfriends and I love dining out at different places. I'm arguably the 'foodie' of the group, but we all love food in equal measure.

My friend recently returned from Thailand and was in, what she calls 'dire' need of Mediterranean food.

We recently rediscovered this Mailbox staple – lured in by the bargain lunch offers and sun trap terrace – and we're glad we did.

It's the perfect place for a relaxed canalside lunch. Although Red Pepper serves great Mediterranean food, they also sell Thai food, which is done just as well as the other cuisine.

Prices are reasonable and the lunchtime deals are even better. We dined on delicious tapas-like foods of queen olives marinated in lemon, chilli and garlic and the goats' cheese and red onion pizzetta, which comes with fries or salad for just under £5.

Red Peppers has a lush atmosphere. Think Mediterranean dining, with the calm of an established Italian and the fresh food-to-table ethos behind Greek cuisine. It's warm, cosy, but still grown up, fitting with its Mailbox location.

If you're one for a cheeky cocktail, Red Peppers doesn't disappoint. Their mojitos are what my sister calls 'epic', not to mention offering a decent array of non-alcoholic cocktails too.
