The Gallery in Redchurch Street sounds like quite the appropriate location for the latest exhibit by photographer, Thomas Knights. His project,
Red Hot , which will be open between the 16th-22nd December, features stills and videos of red-headed beauties. But if you want to goggle at pretty girls with luscious locks, you might end up disappointed. This is a display of gorgeous men gifted (or cursed) with fiery red hair.
For some reason that I can't quite fathom, it has long been the case that auburn roots have been sought for by women, but dreaded by men. Why is it that women with red hair are considered beautiful, while men with red hair get teased and bullied?
As a red-head himself,
Thomas Knights is no stranger to this form of prejudice, and is on a mission to change people's perceptions. He says that 'we have been conditioned to think ginger men are ugly and weak. I wanted to flip this on its head and present the redheaded male as the "ultimate" alpha male. There has already started to be a change in the way ginger lads are seen, mainly because of popular celebrity figures such as Rupert Grint and Prince Harry, but there is still a long way to go. The men showcased in
Red Hot are 'masculine, chiselled, cool, and proud'.
