Eat yourself into an abyss
It was post-exams, and what better way for my friends and I to celebrate and relax than heading to the incredible world food buffet at Red Hot in Leeds city centre? All of us are die-hard foodies, and the prospect of gorging ourselves until we were fit to burst sounded incredibly appealing.
As you descend the steps into the basement, and the buffet, the decor makes you feel as if you are stepping off an aeroplane and into the arrivals lounge in the airport of an exotic country. Once you are seated, you can take a plate in your own time, and return as many times as you wish, at your own pace, to sample the incredible selection of dishes on offer.
The buffet itself is a marvel: an entire room is dedicated to a vast range of culinary delights from around the world.
As all of us are students, the student discount was very welcome, and we ended up spending about £11 each (excluding drinks). As hungry students, we took the 'all you can eat' tagline as an imperative, and dived into the world foods. When you step into the buffet, you cannot quite believe that you can help yourself an infinite number of times. You will find Indian (various curries and appetisers), Chinese, Mexican, Italian and Japanese dishes, as well as English roasts. You'll even find Lebanese salad if you look hard enough!
The dessert selection is quite simply adorable. For those who are too full after their main courses, the bite-size portions of jelly, cheese cake and whipped pudding will satisfy your sweet tooth without any worry about becoming way too full. There is even an ice-cream stand, where the flavours (including Lychee sorbet) are a little out-of-the-ordinary and provided a refreshing change to standard pudding selections.
