If you're craving American food there are places for dirty burgers, gourmet hotdogs and pulled pork. But what about those giant Man V Food sandwiches?

I decided to take the ultimate challenge, and put my money where my mouth is by indulging in the deep-filled subs, not from chain restaurant Subway, but in London.

I love exploring new cities, especially for gastronomic feasts, and Red Dog - the new sandwich diner in Hoxton Square is the best sandwich bar I've found. If you've got a large appetite, this is the place to get your fill.

Red Dog has an old-school Southern charm reflected in the decor and sandwich fillings. The Cuban (roast pork, chorizo, Swiss cheese and pickles), Italian pork (hickory-smoked pork shoulder with provolone) and po'boy (southern-fried catfish) are housed in the glass cabinet and were mouth wateringly chunky, and meaty.

The scent of barbecued meats, sweet and sticky flavours marries nicely with the saloon-like decor. Think of a classic Western film set, and you're in Red Dog. It's a true homage to authentic American old-style cooking. Most of the meats are cooked over a fire

The classic American eats continue to their dessert menu; Banana Pudding (£3.25) Apple Pie (£2.75), Chocolate Brownie (£2.75) Choc Chip Cookie.

It's indulgent fast food, which has been given a sharp update for the discerning palate. Dine here when true hunger strikes because frankly, Red Dog is wasted on a smaller appetite, and you really don't want to waste your visit.
