Forget Grannies on a Sunday afternoon, Rebel Bingo takes the traditional 'two fat ladies' game to the next level.
Now a global event, Rebel Bingo nights are famed for their wackiness, party nature and downright mad prizes. It's all hush hush until you get there and the location isn't revealed until a few days before.
Once you've got your ticket online you'll be sent an address nearer the time, along with a password. A group of friends and I were told to tell any curious passersby that we were heading to a 'Health and Safety' meeting - which couldn't have been further from the truth.
Managing to locate the hidden building we entered and found ourselves in a huge warehouse, with hundreds of party-goers and students (plus many people who looked like they had no idea how they'd ended up there). The DJ had been enthusiastically pumping the crowd up and the bar queue was already five deep - but the atmosphere was electric. Grabbing our free bingo kit from the bar - a surprisingly 'normal' pen and number sheet - we headed towards the packed dance floor.
As the compere began the countdown the mood changed and so began the madcap game. It is in essence normal bingo, but without giving too much away, there will be quite a few surprises in store. The rule is that the first winner on the stage with the correct numbers wins and the prizes range from glow in the dark umbrellas to crazy hats. If you make a mistake and get your numbers wrong, well, be prepared.
The night is perfect for a fun night out with mates and geared largely towards a student crowd. But whatever your age, as long as you're up for a bit of mayhem, it's a great, alternative night out. Tickets are only available if you are signed up to Rebel Bingo's (free) mailing list so get online and give it a go - the next one is on the 14-15th of September. But you didn't hear it from me.
