For all of Liverpool's international cuisine, one style of eatery has been noticeably underrepresented until recently (aside from the odd chain restaurant here and there), and that style is American.
Cue – Bar & Grill. Cocktails, USA style grub & more bourbon than you can shake an American flag at.
Heartily American in style, the large premises feature a pool room, booths and a big screen, not forgetting the tucked away VIP room available for hire. Admittedly since opening, the place has had a re-vamp. Overindulgent eating challenges have been tussled to the ground and instead upgraded for quality themed nights such as 'Jack Fridays' and a streamlined (yet equally hearty) food menu that now includes 'small plates' featuring nibbles such as pick 'n' lick prawns, creole wings and USA style classics such as corn dogs.
Their extensive menu also features breakfasts 10am-2pm on weekends where you can grab an American brekkie, full English or even their pimped up take on an eggs Benedict.
Head to the bar to choose from well-known cocktails with a twist, 'highballers', IPAs, and an extensive range of Bourbons from across 50 states. Still thirtsy after that? Offset against American themed décor (including effortlessly cool wall murals, stars and stripes shutters and of course, the back bar's splendiferous bald eagle) you can grab a Sam Adams on draft. Try washing your meal down with a cream soda float or even spoil yourself with a 'Hard Shake' if you're feeling bold enough (because it's 5pm somewhere, right?)
For the mains, carnivores can rejoice – as the name of the place suggests, there's plenty of quality meats on offer. From pork ribs cooked for over 24 hours (with a choice of three sauces) to build your own burgers with a stealthy 'inject a sauce'. Not forgetting rump and sirloin steaks hot off the grill and 's signature beef chilli (made with lone star beer and a secret ingredient.)
'But what about vegetarians?' I hear you cry! Veggies – grab your steak knives and join the party! Delve into halloumi skewers from the grill, opt for a veggie patty with all the trimmings on a build-a-burger, go for one of the generous sized salads or grab a 'mac daddy' from the American style sandwiches section. My personal favourite was the Aubergine Parmi – a vegetarian twist on chicken parmesan including deep fried aubergine in rich marinara sauce served with salad and fries.
If that wasn't enough to tickle taste buds, you can find specials on the board which differ weekly and wash them down with one of the signature milkshakes (I vote Oreo, all the way.)
Last but not least, it's onto the sweet stuff. The succinct dessert menu is everything you could want after indulging in the lavish mains. Guests can tuck into the speciality Banoffee pie (the chef's mum's own recipe!), opt for a slice of homemade cheesecake, or delve into the gooey delights of the Nutella brownie. Too full? You can always pop back for a 'Sundae of the week' too (past highlights have included bubble-gum flavour, chocolate fudge brownie and strawberry cheesecake. Yum.)
Majestically perched on the corner of Berry Street, head to if you've not had a chance to try the menu yet. Jack Daniels lovers keep a look out for their Jack Friday events each week, launching on 27th August.
(P.S - footy fans keep your eyes peeled - a few premier league favourites have been known to make the odd appearance here from time to time.)
